I'm a French and Science teacher at Twin Valley High School in Wilmington, VT. I also help out with the sports teams and the theater group. I love learning new skills: advances in technology really amaze me. I remember doing some programming in Pascal in 8th grade. Tried my hand at word processing in med school (the early 80s) on a PC, and really appreciated the online access to the medical literature that appeared that decade. Before that, we had to peruse big fat books with little tiny writing. The next big leap in technology for me came in the 90s when I worked for the CDC in the STD/HIV Division. I programmed and analyzed big data sets on the Mainframe using SAS. (I am sure that's why my eyesight got worse during those years!) The introduction of browsers and search engines made the World Wide Web easily accessible. I can't imagine doing without it now. It is truly the teacher's best friend, and, on a larger scale, an important tool for connecting all the peoples of the world in an open forum. The World Wide Web has the potential to be the "great equalizer" and revealer of the truth. Bloggers are often better reporters of the news than the "professionals." Oh dear, but I digress... I hope this Wiki serves its purpose for you: to facilitate communication, the sharing of ideas, and the building of community amongst the foreign language teachers of VT and beyond. Bonne route! Adelante!
